The arresting sounds of Boston’s underground music scene have been recently epitomized by the sharp tongue and noise-punk bravado of collaborative duo, Boogie Boy Metal Mouth. Deliberately steering away from genre limitations whilst bringing together their heyday best (hardcore and hip hop) vocalist J Ring (formerly Awkward Landing) and turntablist, DJ Emoh Betta (Deck Demons, partyboobytrap), deliver an arresting 12-track mix, both unorthodox and granular in production, showcased by live scratching and lawless vocals. If scratch DJ’ing is indeed becoming a rare art, rendered less popular with the advent of hipster DJ’ing, Emoh uses the surface of garage rock, punk, rap – and even blues – to give the turntable a much needed workout. Much like the punk ancestors of previous underground music generations, particularly in Boston, BBMM aren’t afraid to unleash a little bit of suburban anarchy (without stirring the neighbours too much).
