MICHELLE XEN | My Cells

How long does it actually take for a broken heart to mend given that much of our emotional being is entwined with the cellular structure of our bodies? Science suggests that it takes a total of seven to ten years for a total self-replication of the bodies cells and organs, and with this in mind, Brisbane electro-pop songstress, Michelle Xen, has decided to explore the notion of deep love. But let it be known from the beginnings - this isn’t your typical love song.

Putting love under a microscope - quite literally - and experimenting with bio-artistry in conjunction with her audio visual EP, has seen Xen spend many months in the lead up to her latest single release recording the movement of her own cells in a laboratory for her My Cells single release. The recorded footage of Xen’s blood has been layered throughout the clip as a filter and the intended result to invoke a sense of what is deeply personal to the artist is achieved through its vulnerability. Fans of Xen’s earlier recordings expecting deep club bass and flourishes of pop will appreciate the exploration of a more down-tempo and stripped back electronic sound which is highly emotive and cathartic in delivery.

My Cells  is taken from Michelle Xen’s latest EP, On For You.
